East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies Wednesday arrested a Baker man accused of choking a woman, burning her with a cigarette and punching their 3-year-old son.

Christopher Edelen, 44, got into an argument with the victim Sunday after she caught him viewing pornography on his cellphone, according to an arrest report. Edelen pressed a lit cigarette against her face because she “constantly accuses him of looking at pornography,” he told investigators.

Edelen again became angry early Tuesday when he said the victim was not getting ready fast enough to drive him to work, the report says. He walked into the living room and punched their 3-year-old son in the back for not picking up his toys, the report says.

When the boy’s mother confronted him, Edelen choked her for approximately 10 to 20 seconds until she could not breathe, deputies said. She dropped him off at work and then went to police, fearing for her life, investigators said.

Edelen initially denied wrongdoing, but later admitted to choking her and pressing the cigarette against her face. He told investigators he choked the victim because “she wouldn’t shut up,” the report says.

Edelen, 11903 Gurney Road, was booked into Parish Prison on felony counts of cruelty to a juvenile, domestic abuse battery by strangulation and aggravated second-degree battery.
