Tree branch used in man’s beating

Baton Rouge police Saturday arrested a 41-year-old man accused of trying to rob a man in May 2014 after beating him with a tree branch.

Donald Freeman saw the victim riding his bicycle outside the Scotland Money Mart at 9425 Scenic Highway, according to an arrest warrant. He approached the victim, the warrant says, and yelled, “Where is my money?”

Freeman then beat the man in the head and ribs with a broomstick-sized tree branch and began digging though his pockets, the warrant says. The victim later went to the hospital and received eight stitches to close an inch-long cut above his right eyebrow, police said.

Freeman, 9525 Southern Ave., Baton Rouge, was booked Saturday into Parish Prison on counts of attempted armed robbery and aggravated second-degree battery.
