Strong winds complicated efforts to extinguish a Monday morning fire on Plank Road that destroyed an apartment building but did not injure anyone, the authorities said.
When firefighters arrived to the building on the corner of Plank Road and Pawnee Street, they found the structure intensely burning, said Curt Monte, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.
The wind hindered firefighters for some time, but they had the fire under control by about 9:45 a.m., Monte said.
No one was injured in the fire.
Most of the building’s tenants had been located by about 10 a.m., Monte said, and firefighters did not find anyone inside the burned building in several post-blaze sweeps.
