A home at 1625 Myrtle Walk St. was damaged by a fire late Thursday that was likely started by the improper use of an extension cord, according to a Baton Rouge Fire Department news release.

The fire started about 8 p.m. in an upstairs bedroom of the home, the release says.

The fire burned the bedroom and the attic above it, while the rest of the home was damaged by smoke and water, the release says.

Three people inside the home escaped without injury, the release says.
