A woman was sexually assaulted and a man was beaten with a gun Monday after two armed robbers broke into their Jim Taylor Drive apartment, a police spokesman said.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the 1400 block of Jim Taylor, which is three blocks away from where a man was shot last year while trying to help a pregnant robbery victim, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

The female victim in Monday’s attack is 19, McKneely said. She escaped through a window, ran to a neighbor’s apartment and called police.

The male victim is 27, McKneely said. He, too, was able to escape, but only after being chased by the robbers, both of whom were armed.

The robbers took an undisclosed amount of cash from the couple’s home, McKneely said, adding that the only description police have of the men is that they are black and that one of them has gold teeth.
