Michael Tarver

A 22-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested Thursday after he allowed his pet pit bull to attack a pig while he videotaped the encounter, according to a Baton Rouge police report.

Police said Michael Tarver released the dog from a kennel behind his Hollywood Street house and allowed it to attack the small pig, which was also in the back yard. An officer found the pig in a neighbor's yard and saw that it was bleeding heavily from the side of its head and ear.

Tarver told police he did allow the dog to get out of the kennel and go after the pig, according to the report. He also showed an officer a video on his phone of the pig eating food in his yard and it did not appear to be in distress.

Tarver, of 2512 Hollywood St., was booked in Parish Prison on cruelty to animals.
