A boy was arrested Thursday after he was accused of bringing a gun Wednesday to Dutchtown High School.

Authorities received the information through an anonymous tip from Crime Stoppers on Thursday morning, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Allison Hudson said.

The boy was arrested and booked into Assumption Parish Youth Detention Center on aggravated assault, possession of a firearm on school property, and illegal possession of a firearm by a minor, Hudson said.

The handgun was turned over to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, she said.

There was no report of a specific threat to a student or employee, Carli Francois, the school’s principal, said in an email sent to parents.

“However, we take this matter very seriously and commend the anonymous tip,” Francois said.
