A Baton Rouge woman was arrested Tuesday on counts of felony tax evasion after failing to pay $12,700 in taxes, officials said.
Tanya Tonette Rivers, 42, failed to file taxes on $268,217.13 worth of income from 2010 through 2013, according to a report by the Louisiana Department of Justice. Criminal investigators with the Louisiana Department of Revenue were tipped off to Rivers’ activities in 2013 and found W-2 and check stub information showing Rivers earned money from LACAP Inc. on which she didn’t pay taxes, according to the document. In one year, Rivers earned $121,811.
Rivers did not respond to written requests from the state Department of Revenue for payment, according to the report.
“Rivers, by not responding to these communications, displayed a total disregard not to comply with tax laws of this state,” the document said.
Rivers, of 14023 Stone Gate Drive, posted $10,000 bond and was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Tuesday, according to jail records.
