A 19-year-old man who was shot in the head Feb. 14 died Saturday, prompting Baton Rouge police to rebook a 16-year-old boy with second-degree murder.

The 16-year-old, whom police have declined to name, was originally booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on a count of attempted second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Michael Patterson, 2747 Huron St., Baton Rouge, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

The shooting occurred inside Patterson’s Huron Street home at 9:40 p.m. on Feb. 14, McKneely said. Police arrested the juvenile the next day.

Police suspect the two teens and others were playing with a handgun when the suspect snatched the handgun from Patterson’s hand, pointed it at him and pulled the trigger, McKneely said.
