Two suspicious packages found outside Thomas Boyd Hall on LSU’s campus Monday afternoon prompted officials to evacuate the building, send a campuswide text alert and close off the area.
After a controlled detonation by the Baton Rouge Police Department’s Bomb Squad at about 5:45 p.m., investigators learned coffee was inside the packages, Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman, said.
Capt. Cory Lalonde, an LSU police spokesman, said an investigation into the incident is continuing.
Police evacuated Thomas Boyd Hall, which houses the University Registrar’s Office, and sent the text alert shortly after 3:15 p.m.
Lalonde said the decision to evacuate the building was a safety precaution.
