A neighbor discovered a 70-year-old woman badly beaten and moaning in pain on the patio of her Jennifer Lynne Avenue home early Sunday morning in what detectives say probably was not a random attack.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after the neighbor heard her cries and jumped the fence in the Sherwood area to offer help around 1 a.m. Sunday, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.
“She was badly beaten,” McKneely said. “Her injuries are serious but appear to be non-life-threatening.”
Evidence of an attack in the woman’s home in the 13000 block of Jennifer Lynne Avenue, including dried blood on her bed, indicate the attack happened inside the home several hours earlier, McKneely said.
McKneely said there are no signs that an attacker forced his way inside the home, leading detectives to suspect the assault wasn’t random.
Investigators haven’t identified an attacker but are following up on leads, McKneely said.
Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Baton Rouge Police Department’s Major Assaults Division at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
