Firefighters suspect arson in a house fire late Saturday on Iroquois Street, the Baton Rouge Fire Department says in a news release says.

The house was empty when firefighters arrived at 2429 Iroquois St., but the person who lived there returned home while the Fire Department was still on the scene, spokesman Barry Mounce said Sunday in the release.

When firefighters arrived about 11 p.m., flames were shooting through multiple windows of the house and causing damage throughout, Mounce’s release says.

The Fire Department estimates damage at $65,000, the release says. The Red Cross is helping the person who lived in the house.

The Fire Department is asking anyone with information about the fire to contact the Baton Rouge Fire Department Investigation Division at 354-1419.
