A Houston woman was arrested Thursday after she tried to run over a man, striking a city bus in the process, all with an 8-month-old child in her vehicle, Baton Rouge police said.

Niesha Wiggins, 20, was driving down Plank Road when she drove onto sidewalk, attempting to strike a man who was walking there, according to a police report. While trying to hit the man, Wiggins drove into a CATS bus, then got out and began quarrelling with the bus driver, the report says.

The driver “felt that she was in immediate threat of receiving a battery at the hands of (Wiggins),” an officer wrote in the report.

Wiggins’ 8-month-old child, who was in her car during the entire ordeal, was not restrained in a child seat, the report says.

Three other people who were riding in Wiggins’ car told police that Wiggins did attempt to run over the man on the sidewalk, the report says.

Wiggins, 8519 Cowart St., was booked into Parish Prison on counts of aggravated assault, aggravated criminal damage to property, simple assault and child desertion. She remains in jail in lieu of $4,000 bail.
