Christmas tree lights spark fire in Broadmoor

A Christmas tree burst into flames and caused $30,000 in damage when its lights sparked a house fire in the living room of a Carolyn Sue Drive home, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

A child in the home plugged in the lights to the tree at 1235 Carolyn Sue Drive, and moments later another child saw something sparking about 5 p.m. Monday, said Mark Miles, a BRFD spokesman.

As the tree caught fire, a baby-sitter rushed the children out of the house, and firefighters arrived soon afterward to find the tree in flames, Miles said. They contained the fire to the living room within 10 minutes, but the house sustained heavy smoke damage, as well as some water damage, Miles said.

Wife booked in stabbing of husband

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Baton Rouge woman accused of attempted murder after deputies say she stabbed her husband Monday night as their 13-year-old son looked on.

Stephanie Robertson was fighting with her husband at their Villere Drive home when she went to the kitchen, pulled out a knife and told her husband she would stab him, according to a report.

The two then struggled for the knife, and Robertson stabbed him in the upper chest, causing him to fall to the floor, the report says. The report did not specify the man’s condition at the hospital but did say he was conscious while being placed in the ambulance.

Robertson, 39, 7020 Villere Drive, was booked into Parish Prison early Tuesday on counts of attempted second-degree murder and domestic abuse battery.
