A 19-year-old man struck by a train around 2 a.m. near Tigerland remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries as of 10 a.m., said Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola said.

The accident happened on tracks that run parallel to Nicholson Drive, near the LSU campus. The train was heading northbound and the man was walking southbound just on the outside railing of the track, Coppola said in a news release Friday.

“The individual ignored all audible warnings and, as a result, was struck by the train,” Coppola said. “At this point in time, he remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
