Teen booked in L’Auberge Casino armed robberies said to be nervous, ‘almost like this was his first time attempting this’ _lowres

Ari Thompson, 19

A Zachary teenager brandishing a realistic-looking BB gun, along with an unknown accomplice, separately mugged three people at gunpoint in the parking lot of L’Auberge Casino early Tuesday morning, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Ari Thompson, 19, 21128 Reames Road, hopped out of a dark sedan brandishing what looked like a semiautomatic pistol and shouted “Give me your phone and wallet” to three patrons on different occasions that morning, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office reports say.

Two of the victims handed over cellphones to the robber, the reports say, while a third told Thompson he’d already lost all of his cash in the casino before handing over his phone as well.

A victim told sheriff’s deputies that the robber — later identified as Thompson — “seemed to be very nervous, almost like this was his first time attempting this,” the report says. A second victim also noted the stickup man “seemed very nervous.”

Deputies used the “Find My iPhone” app to track one of the victim’s phones, an iPhone 6, to the 1300 block of Brightside Drive, where sheriff’s deputies pulled over a dark-colored Toyota Camry with multiple passengers — including Thompson — inside.

One of the victims picked Thompson out of the group as the armed robber, the report says, while his companions were cleared of any involvement. A quick search of the car turned up two of the victims’ cellphones and a black BB gun.

Thompson told deputies he robbed two of the three victims but that his companion — whom he said he met at a Wal-Mart near LSU but couldn’t identify — mugged the third.

Deputies booked Thompson on three counts of armed robbery. Bail for Thompson, who remained at Parish Prison on Wednesday evening, is set at $180,000.
