Police Wednesday identified the 23-year-old man found shot to death in the road one street over from his home Tuesday evening.

Tyrell J. George, who lived in the 1600 block of North 24th Street, was found lying in the 1700 block of North 23rd Street, Baton Rouge Police said in a news release.

One neighbor, Robert Williams, said he heard 4-5 gunshots from his house around 6:45 p.m., and police said George was found about 30 minutes later.

District Attorney Hillar Moore III, who was at the scene Tuesday night, said the killing is frustrating.

He said the neighborhood has seen a “plague of violence” and that “the residents don’t deserve it.”

Dr. William “Beau” Clark, the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner, said an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to determine the official cause of death.

“We need to stop the killings,” Moore said.

Family gathered Wednesday at the house where George lived. His godmother said, who was also at the house Wednesday, said the family was not ready to talk about George.
