Baton Rouge police are investigating an incident Saturday in which they say an officer fired shots after a fleeing car crashed and a passenger emerged, pointing a gun toward the officers.

Two officers were trying to stop a vehicle near 1800 Bay St. when the driver refused to stop, said Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola.

When the driver later crashed near the intersection Plank Road and Bellvale Street, the passenger got out of the car and pointed a gun at officers, Coppola said.

Police arrested the driver without incident, Coppola said. He said he did not know if the fleeing suspect was struck by any bullets fired by the police officer.
