Baton Rouge firefighter recruits will run through live burn scenarios Wednesday evening, drilling their skills at night for the first time.

The 30 recruits, all members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department’s training class, will deal with live burn scenarios at the LSU Fire Training Institute on Nicholson Drive starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, said Curt Monte, a fire department spokesman.

“This will be their first night burn and the biggest burn they’ve done so far,” Monte said of the recruits, who’ve been in training for the past 22 weeks and are scheduled to graduate April 1. “This is an opportunity for them to train as well as show off to their family and loved ones what they’ve been doing the last 22 weeks and what they can look forward to for the next 30 years.”
