John West, 25

A man who climbed into a woman’s Baton Rouge apartment through her bedroom window and held a knife to her throat was  stabbed in the neck by the victim when she took the knife during a struggle, according to a police report.

John West broke into an apartment at 8770 Elm Grove Garden Drive, at 5:23 a.m. Tuesday and threatened to kill the woman inside with a blade that he pressed to her neck, a Baton Rouge police report says.

At some point, the woman was able to call authorities, prompting West to flee. But West, 25, later returned and engaged in a struggle with the woman over the knife, which ended with his neck being sliced, the report says.

West and the woman had shared a residence in the past five years, according to the report.

West, of 2507 Spain St., was booked into Parish Prison on counts of home invasion and domestic abuse aggravated assault, the report says. He was not assigned bail as of Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records.
