A shooting outside a convenience store in Vacherie on Saturday morning left one man dead and his stepson arrested, according to St. James Parish Sheriff Wily Martin Jr.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 11 a.m. at Wag-A-Pac convenience store and found Reynald Jackson, 47, of Vacherie lying facedown in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, Martin said in a news release. Jackson died at the scene.
Detectives identified Jackson's stepson, Rojae Dumas, 26, as a suspect in the shooting, and Dumas turned himself in Saturday afternoon after family members encouraged him to do so, Martin said.
Dumas, 13154 Willow Street, was arrested on second-degree murder and booked into the St. James Parish jail awaiting bond.
