The Zachary Police Department is searching for a driver involved in a hit and run on Feb. 1 that left a man in critical condition, said Zachary police chief David McDavid.

McDavid said the victim had been out of his vehicle tending to a flat tire around 12:25 a.m. on Old Scenic Highway when he was struck. Witnesses told police the victim walked into the roadway and was hit by an older-model, blue Toyota Camry, McDavid said.

McDavid said the person behind the wheel of that vehicle then fled, traveling south on Old Scenic Highway.

McDavid said he plans to arrest the driver on a count of hit-and-run since the driver did not stop to render aid, and pending further investigation, additional counts could be added.

McDavid asked anyone with information about the vehicle to call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867 or the Zachary Police Department (225) 654-9393.
