The owner of the home at 6656 Harry Drive was able to run to safety after an intruder broke into his home at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday and attacked him, Baton Rouge police said.

The victim was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Police are still looking for the attacker, who is described as a dark-skinned black man, medium build, about 5 feet 9 inches, who was wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts, McKneely said.

Robber sought in Country Corner heist

Baton Rouge police are searching for the robber who on Monday night walked into the Country Corner on Perkins Road armed with a handgun, tied a worker’s hands with a shirt and grabbed a handful of cash before escaping.

After the 8 p.m. robbery at the 1923 Perkins Road store, the robber ran east down Hundred Oaks Avenue, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

The robber is described as a slim, black man who is about 6 feet 1 inch tall, McKneely said. The robber wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, basketball shorts and a red backpack.

Authorities book 2 on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least two people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Ricky Coleman, 52, 9956 Avenue H, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, failure to maintain control, seat belt violation and reckless operation.
  • Robert Hill, 21, 104 Ashwood Drive, Haughton, first-offense DWI, driving over the median and reckless operation.
