An man accused of killing a 25-year-old in New Orleans East was arrested in Baton Rouge on Friday evening during a police patrol.

Curtis Stewart, 23, was arrested on a count of fugitive second-degree murder, BRPD spokesman L'Jean McKneely said in a news release. 

Stewart, according to New Orleans Police spokesman Juan Barnes, was wanted for second-degree murder for the July 21 slaying of Devan Smith in the 14700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. 

Police found Smith unresponsive after responding to reports of a shooting in the area. Paramedics pronounced Smith dead on the scene.
