Baton Rouge police identify bicyclist killed Sunday while riding on Plank Road _lowres

Eric Glover, 39, was booked in Parish Prison on counts of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless operation and driver’s license suspended/revoked.

Baton Rouge police identified the bicyclist killed Sunday when he was struck by a drunken driver while riding his bike early Sunday on the shoulder of Plank Road, police said.

Ernest Smith Jr., 45, was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Eric Glover, 39, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Both men were headed north in the 6500 block of Plank Road when Glover’s 1996 Toyota T100 went off the road, striking Smith, Coppola said.

Smith, of 2650 72nd Ave., was taken to a hospital where he died.

Glover, of 4969 Osborne Ave., Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of vehicular homicide, first-offense DWI, reckless operation and driver’s license suspended/revoked.
