A Baton Rouge man was killed Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision on La. 182 in Lafourche Parish.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Ernest Harris, 22, of Bridge City, was traveling east on La. 182 when it crossed the center line and began to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, State Police said in a news release.

At the same time, a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by Fred Walker, 55, of Baton Rouge, was traveling west on La. 182, approaching the Camaro. Walker was unable to avoid the oncoming Camaro, State Police said, and the two vehicles collided head-on.

Harris, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, State Police said. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a seat belt, State Police said.

Impairment is unknown. Blood was taken from Harris, and the test results are pending, State Police said. Routine toxicology texts are also pending for Walker. The collision remains under investigation.
