Man accused of hitting woman with hammer
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a 47-year-old man Wednesday accused of striking his longtime girlfriend with a hammer after he had smoked crack cocaine.
David Johnson was using crack cocaine Jan. 7 when his girlfriend of five years told him he needed to leave their apartment, according to an arrest warrant. Johnson punched her in the eye, knocking her to the ground, repeatedly kicked her in the ribs and hit her twice in the head with a hammer, detectives said.
He threatened to kill her if she didn’t go to bed, the warrant says.
A week later, deputies were summoned to her home again after Johnson called the woman and threatened to kill her, detectives said.
Johnson, 123 Live Oak Blvd., No. 203, Baton Rouge, was booked Wednesday into Parish Prison on a count of attempted second-degree murder.
