Baton Rouge police are investigating a two-vehicle crash Friday near Winbourne Avenue and Dougherty Drive that killed a Woodville, Mississippi, man and injured one other person.

Oliver Perry, 67, was taken to a hospital but died later Friday from his injuries, said Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

The wreck occurred about 1 p.m. in the 5500 block of Winbourne Avenue near Dougherty Drive. The driver of a Jeep Wrangler was headed east on Winbourne, approaching Dougherty in an outside lane, where Perry had stopped his Ford Taurus for a red light, Coppola siad.

Investigators believe that as the light turned green, Perry started to drive the Ford through the intersection and was struck by the Jeep, Coppola said.

Coppola said the driver of the Jeep was not injured and a passenger in Perry's Ford was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
