Baton Rouge man wanted in May rape of girl, 16, lands behind bars _lowres

Damien Thompson, 36

A 36-year-old Baton Rouge man accused raping a 16-year-old girl at a Baton Rouge hotel in May is now in Parish Prison.

Baton Rouge Police arrested Damien Thompson, 4759 Earl Gros Avenue, Monday on one count of second-degree rape. Authorities have been searching for Thompson since a judge signed the warrant for his arrest in June.

The victim of the assault told detectives a stranger followed her into her room at the Embassy Suites at 4914 Constitution on May 2, a Baton Rouge Police report says.

The victim of the attack was babysitting a young niece at the hotel and stepped out of the room briefly to go to the vending machine and talk on her cellphone, the report says.

Thompson followed her back into the room and ordered her to lay down, the report says. The victim told police she didn’t scream because she didn’t want to endanger her niece.

A DNA test matched Thompson to evidence from a rape kit performed on the teenaged girl, the report says, and the victim also identified Thompson in a photo lineup.

Bail for Thompson is set at $100,000.
