LABADIEVILLE — A Labadieville man being pulled over for speeding Monday got out of his vehicle holding a 12-ounce beer bottle, according to a news release from Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack.
When Desmond Smith, 33, 314 Pelican St., performed poorly on a field sobriety test, he became combative with deputies and ran down the street shouting he “was not going to jail,” the news release said.
After a brief struggle, Smith was restrained and deputies found a plastic bag of suspected cocaine on the driver’s side of his vehicle, the release said.
Smith was booked on counts of speeding, open container, first offense DWI, possession of cocaine, two counts battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Smith was being held at the Assumption Parish Detention Center on Tuesday. Bond had not been set.
