Credit cards snatched from a woman’s purse in a Costco parking lot Monday were used minutes later to buy $23,000 in gift cards at a nearby Target, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies are asking for help identifying three men who approached the woman as she loaded groceries into her vehicle, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

Two of the men began asking the woman questions as the third reached into her purse and grabbed her wallet, Hicks said.

After the woman alerted her bank about unusual charges to her credit cards, detectives discovered that the cards were used 22 minutes later to buy thousands of dollars in gift cards at Target, Hicks said.

Hicks asked anyone with information about the incident or who knows the identity of the men to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (225) 389-5000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (225) 344-7867.
