The East Baton Rouge Parish deputy was responding to a report of a burglary on Fleet Drive, spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

Hicks said he was taken to the hospital at 1:40 p.m. The dog, which was restrained after the incident, is now under the care of Animal Control, Hicks said.
