A 22-year-old Baton Rouge man is wanted by police for allegedly burning his 2-year-old son while taking care of the boy last week.
Jamal Ackerson, of 4235 Joseph St., is wanted on a count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge Police spokesman.
The victim’s mother discovered the burns when she picked up the boy from Ackerson Friday evening, contacted police and took the toddler to the emergency room, a Baton Rouge Police report says.
An emergency room doctor said the boy suffered second-degree burns to his hips and buttocks.
When detectives interviewed Ackerson, he said the burns were caused by hot bath water and were an accident, the report says.
But the emergency room doctor disagreed, telling a detective hot bath water would’ve left “more burns to the victim’s legs if that had been the cause,” the report says.
Police are asking anyone with information on Ackerson’s whereabouts to contact the Baton Rouge Police Special Victims Unit at (225) 389-3853 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
