A Baton Rouge man was hospitalized after he was shot Saturday night by an unknown assailant while walking down Eaton Street, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, told detectives he was walking in the 3300 block of Eaton Street at about 11:40 p.m. when the assailant shouted at him, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a Baton Rouge police spokesman.
When the victim stopped, the man opened fire, McKneely said.
Shot once in the torso, the man ran to the 3400 block of Wayne Drive — around the corner from the site of the shooting — before calling for help, McKneely said.
He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with a wound that McKneely described as not life-threatening.
McKneely said the victim told detectives “he did not know the man who shot him or why he was shot.”
