Baton Rouge police identify bicyclist killed Sunday while riding on Plank Road _lowres

Eric Glover, 39, was booked in Parish Prison on counts of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless operation and driver’s license suspended/revoked.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m. Monday: The bicyclist killed by a pickup truck early Sunday on Plank Road has been identified as Ernest Smith Jr., 45, of Baton Rouge.

The investigation remains ongoing, the Baton Rouge Police Department said in news release Monday.

A bicyclist riding on Plank Road early Sunday was struck and killed by a pickup truck whose driver was arrested on counts of vehicular homicide and drunken driving, authorities said.

The 45-year-old man was riding his bike north on the shoulder of the road when Eric Glover, 39, driving in the same direction in a 1996 Toyota T100, drove off the road for unknown reasons and struck the bicyclist around 2:30 a.m. in the 6500 block of Plank Road, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

The cyclist was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, Coppola said.

Glover, of 4969 Osborne Ave., Baton Rouge, was arrested on counts of vehicular homicide, first-offense DWI, reckless operation and driver’s license suspended/revoked.
