Baton Rouge authorities seize suspected cocaine worth $1.8 million, found in unclaimed luggage on bus _lowres

Suspected cocaine seized Dec. 8, 2015 on a passenger bus.

Authorities found 40 pounds of suspected cocaine in unclaimed luggage on a bus traveling on Interstate-12 East on Tuesday morning, an official said.

The drugs have a street value of approximately $1.8 million, said East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks.

A sheriff’s canine team located the 16 bags of white powder after a police dog named Jumma sniffed luggage in a compartment of a passenger bus, Hicks said. The vehicle was stopped after it failed to signal and began flashing hazard lights, she said.

The bag containing the suspected cocaine did not have tags on it, she said.
