A motorcyclist was killed Sunday morning after he drove off the road and crashed into a guardrail on La. 952 north of La. 10 at Miller Road in Jackson.
John Guate, 55, of St. Bernard, was driving a 2003 Honda motorcycle northbound about 8:30 a.m. when he failed to make it around a left curve and instead ran off the right side of the road, said State Police spokesman Bryan Lee.
Guate’s motorcycle hit a guardrail, and he was thrown off it, Lee said. Although he was wearing an approved safety helmet, Guate suffered fatal injuries in the crash, Lee said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office.
A toxicology sample will be taken from Guate and submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, but impairment is not suspected to be a factor, Lee said.
