An abandoned motel at 1329 Snipe St. was gutted by a Thursday night fire believed to have been set by an arsonist, according to a Baton Rouge Fire Department news release.

Firefighters were called out to the former Skylark Motel in Scotlandville at 10:35 p.m., the release says.

The motel was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, the release says.

Firefighters were at the scene until 4:30 a.m., the release says. No one was injured.

Firefighters probing suspected arson

Firefighters are investigating a suspected arson that damaged a home at 4830 Mohican St. late Thursday night, according to a Baton Rouge Fire Department news release.

The call reporting the fire came in at 11:19 p.m., the release says. The outer wall of one side of the home was ablaze when firefighters arrived, the release says.

The fire was quickly extinguished, the release says. No one was injured.

Three arrested on 1st-offense DWIs

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 p.m. Friday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

• Cory Caranna, 21, 12335 Brown Road, Denham Springs, first-offense DWI, failure to signal and improper turn.

• Thomas Mahan, 64, 13191 Plank Road, Baker, first-offense DWI, disturbing the peace by intoxication, criminal damage to property and resisting an officer.

• Erin Veilleux, 40, 10795 Mead Road, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage and driver’s license suspended or revoked.
