BATCHELOR — A Marksville man was killed early Saturday in a crash involving three vehicles on La. 1 at La. 972 in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana State Police said in a news release.
Nicky Voinche, 56, Marksville, was pronounced dead of injuries at Pointe Coupee General Hospital, Trooper Russell Graham said in the release.
Joseph Capps, 35, of New Roads, was northbound in a 2007 Toyota pickup on La. 1, south of La. 972, at 6 a.m. when he swerved to avoid rear-ending a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by Brian Major, 54, of Jarreau, Graham said.
Capps sideswiped Major’s truck and collided head-on with an approaching 2007 Chevrolet pickup, Graham said.
Voinche was driving the 2007 Chevrolet pickup and was not wearing a seat belt at the time, Graham said.
Capps, who also was not using a seat belt, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Graham said.
Jarreau, the only driver involved who was wearing a seat belt, was uninjured, Graham said.
Troopers do not suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash but have submitted blood samples from Voinche and Capps for analysis, Graham said.
Major voluntarily submitted a breath sample, which showed no detectable alcohol in his system, Graham said.
Troopers booked Capps on one count each of negligent homicide, careless operation, driving left of center, no seat belt and driving under suspension, Graham said.
