Two fires Thursday night destroyed two Baton Rouge homes.

The first occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue. The Baton Rouge Fire Department said firefighters arrived at the home and found flames through the roof. The home, which a family was remodeling, is considered a total loss.

Arson is blamed in the the second fire, which occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the 300 block of West Johnson Street.

BRFD said the vacant home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
