East Baton Rouge Sheriff deputies were conducting an investigation Saturday night before the shooting that killed one law enforcement officer, a State Police spokesman said Sunday.
Trooper Bryan Lee said the deputies were not responding to call for service. But he declined to provide more information about what officers were investigating.
Lee and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks both said that the name of the deputy will be released Sunday afternoon. Lee said that it is unclear when the name of the suspect will be released.
The suspect, who also was shot, was hospitalized on Saturday night. His condition is unclear.
