East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 37-year-old Baton Rouge man in the stabbing death of a Zachary man whose body was discovered at a Deer Creek Drive home, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks.
David Matthew Lyon, of 153 N. 17th St., was booked Monday on a count of second-degree murder in the death of Stephen Kennedy, 62, whose body was found at his 19640 Deer Creek Drive home at 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies went to check on Kennedy’s welfare after a resident reported that he had not been seen in several days, according to the arrest affidavit.
The first responding deputies observed that the exterior of the home was secured. Homicide detectives later found Kennedy’s body, which had already begun to decompose, in the rear bedroom, Sgt. Scott Henning Jr. writes in the affidavit.
Evidence in the bedroom indicated a struggle had taken place, Henning wrote.
Detectives found two bloody latent prints on the wall of the bedroom that they believe only could have been left by the attacker as he left the bedroom, Henning wrote.
Examiners later confirmed the bloody prints matched Lyon’s left and right palm print, Henning wrote.
Lyon is a former coworker and former roommate of Kennedy, Hicks said.
