A 33-year-old Baton Rouge man allegedly choked his girlfriend twice until she nearly passed out during an argument on Saturday, police said.

Martelle Hamilton and his girlfriend got into an argument about money while riding in his girlfriend’s car, according to a police report.

Hamilton allegedly launched a stream of profanity at the woman before grabbing her by the neck and choking her until she began to pass out. After stopping at a relative’s house, Hamilton ordered the woman to stay in the car but then pulled her out and started choking her again, only stopping after the woman reached into the car and honked the horn, a report said.

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested Hamilton, 6282 Wright Drive, later that day after interviewing the victim. He was booked into parish prison on one count of second-degree battery.
