After pouring beer on a man’s head, a Baton Rouge man struck his victim with a metal pipe before being arrested, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.

Silvano Najera-Luna, 56, faces a count of aggravated battery after an argument turned violent Thursday around 4:30 p.m. at his residence at 9527 Tracy Ave., a sheriff’s report says.

During a gathering involving drinking, Najera-Luna grew angry after another man made a joke, which provoked him to douse the man’s head with beer, the report says. The other man pushed Najera-Luna away onto pieces of a broken beer bottle, according to the statement.

Najera-Luna then grabbed a metal pipe and swung it at the man, who raised his arm to block the weapon and suffered a cut and bruise, the report says.

A deputy observed the man claiming to be the victim had a one-inch-long gash on his left arm, according to the statement.

Najera-Luna was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of aggravated battery and was assigned a bond of $5,000, according to jail records.
