An arson badly damaged one Stumberg Lane apartment and damaged two parked cars on Tuesday night, causing $65,000 in damage, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.

Firefighters arrived at the Stumberg Condominiums at 6212 Stumberg Lane at around 7 p.m. to find that fire had already engulfed the engines of two cars beneath an awning, and flames were climbing up the adjacent wall, said Curt Monte, a Fire Department spokesman.

By the time firefighters extinguished the flames, one of the building’s eight units — an apartment belonging to a family of five — was rendered unlivable, Monte said.

The fire is still being investigated. Anyone with details about the fire can call investigators at (225) 354-1419.
