Autopsies performed on people shot dead Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide show that two of the victims were shot in the head by a gunman who later turned the weapon on himself.

Makayla Jones, 18, was shot in the head and neck while in bed at a residence at 1077 N. Donmoor Ave, said East Baton Rouge Parish coroner Dr. William “Beau” Clark. A friend, 38-year-old Shawyn Lollis, was found in the living area with at least one gunshot wound to the head, Clark said.

Police said the shooting was carried out by Jones’ 20-year-old boyfriend Marquiles Whaley, who began firing around 1:20 a.m. after an argument between himself, Jones and her 36-year-old mother, Romander Jones. She was shot but survived. Lollis apparently walked in on the quarrel and was shot as a result, said Lollis’ sister, Leteisha Perkins on Sunday.

Whaley eventually turned the gun on himself, discharging at least one bullet into his head before falling to the floor at the foot of the bed, said Clark.

A family member has said the incident was witnessed by Makayla Jones’ one-year-old baby. The investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department is still underway.
