High-speed motorcycle chase lands Baton Rouge man in jail _lowres

Donzell Dukes

A Baton Rouge motorcyclist led officers from Norwood and Zachary on a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon along Highway 19, landing the driver in parish prison on several charges.

Donzell Dukes, 20, 12670 Sunset Road, was booked on felony aggravated flight from an officer, resisting arrest by flight and a felony fugitive count from Norwood police. According to police documents, Zachary police officers joined the chase on Highway 19 southbound near the Zachary city limits, where Dukes raced past officers on a black motorcycle “at a very high rate of speed.” Officers wrote that they saw Dukes, dressed in black with a blue helmet, nearly cause several accidents while blasting through two intersections and passing several vehicles in no-passing areas in his attempt to elude police.

Police caught up with Dukes on foot after he attempted to ditch his motorcycle behind the Bronco Car Wash on Highway 19 in Zachary and tried to take off into the woods before being corralled and arrested by a Zachary police lieutenant.

It was not immediately clear what prompted Dukes to initially run from Norwood police or why officers there had attempted to pull him over.
