The driver of a private Head Start school bus carrying several children was ticketed after a crash with a sedan Friday, officials said.
The collision happened around 3:15 p.m. as the bus made a left turn from the southbound side of Oakside Drive onto Glen Oaks Drive, said East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks. The school bus cut into the path of a car whose driver didn’t have time to react, she said.
None of the 31 children aboard the bus, ages 5-8, reported injuries, Hicks said. The car’s driver was transported to a local hospital with neck pain, she said.
The school bus driver was cited for failure to yield, Hicks said. She was unable to provide the driver’s name late Friday.
A black car — its front crumpled under the left side of the bus — was left with its driver’s seat area appearing structurally intact Friday afternoon. The driver’s door was left open.
The students, some of them crying, evacuated from the bus and sat down on the grass near the crash site Friday while the incident was being processed.
The collision is still being investigated, Hicks said.
