Authorities arrested a 10-year-old boy after Baton Rouge fire investigators ruled a fire Friday at a Sherwood Valley Court apartment arson.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze Friday evening after someone set fire to a pile of trash inside the vacant unit at 11614 Sherwood Valley Court just before 6:30 p.m.
Witnesses came forward and pointed detectives to a juvenile in the area who later told authorities he started the fire, a Baton Rouge Fire Department press release says. Investigators have no motive at this time, though.
Firefighters quickly doused the fire before it could spread, but the apartment unit sustained $5,000 worth of damage, mostly to the floor; the rest of the apartment had light smoke damage.
The juvenile, unidentified, was booked into the parish juvenile detention center on simple arson and criminal trespassing, the release says.
