A father accidentally struck his 1-year-old child while pummelling the baby’s mother Saturday night in Baton Rouge, a Sheriff’s Office affidavit says.
The baby’s father, Christopher Broadnax, 41, was arrested Saturday on a count of domestic abuse battery and child endangerment, according to jail records. Broadnax, of the 1400 block of Jasper Avenue, Baton Rouge, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, an East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputy arrived at Broadnax’s apartment where his 24-year-old girlfriend said she was beaten several times in the head with closed fists, according to the affidavit. She said Broadnax inadvertently hit the pair’s one-year-old child during the fight, according to the document.
The deputy later learned the woman was the source of several 911 open line calls that night in which a woman could be heard screaming at a man in the background, the affidavit said. Fearful of retaliation, the woman — who had minor swelling and redness on her forehead — said she couldn’t speak into the phone until later when she called authorities and provided an address, the document stated.
Broadnax denied hitting his partner, saying only that there had been a verbal argument, the affidavit said.
